The Research Alliance for New York City Schools (http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/research\_alliance) , an independent research center housed in the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development at NYU, is hiring a Part-time Research Analyst to support field-based research in several projects. These projects include our study of the Urban Assembly Network of Schools (https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/research-alliance/study-urban-assembly-network) , conducted in partnership with MDRC, studies focused on culturally responsive/sustaining educational (CR-SE) practices in computer science classrooms (https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/news/research-alliance-launches-new-studies-focused-cs-education) , and our case study (https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/research-alliance/identifying-strong-transfer-pathways) focused on understanding the practices and policies that support students who transfer to John Jay from community college.
Job Description:
This part-time position is ideal for an experienced person interested in educational equity, qualitative research, and/or applied research. The position will provide opportunities to learn about the research process, engage in research activities, and network with a team of experienced researchers. In addition, a position at the Research Alliance will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about current education policy issues in New York City.
Responsibilities:
+ Assist with literature reviews
+ Assist with developing qualitative code books
+ Assist with recruiting, scheduling, and consenting research participants
+ Conduct interviews and classroom observations with research participants
+ Manage audio transcription
+ Administer and collect student and educator surveys.
+ Engage in qualitative coding and analysis using Dedoose
+ Assist with interpreting qualitative results
+ Contribute to analytic memos and other writing.
+ Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field (education research or policy, economics, applied psychology, sociology, or related social science).
+ NYC DOE fingerprinting clearance to enter school sites strongly preferred. Must be willing to complete the 23 CITI human subjects training required by NYU and DOE.
+ Experience working, teaching, or volunteering in NYC public schools is strongly preferred
+ Previous experience in field research, case study methods, interviewing, and observation.
+ Strong written and oral communication skills.
+ Detail oriented and organized.
+ Energetic and highly motivated with interest in working both independently and collaboratively
Duration : January 15 , 2024 - August 31 , 2024 with the possibility of extension .
Salary/ Compensation : $25-$30 hourly depending on experience , approximately 10 hours per week.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly salary range for this position is $25.00-$30.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
